ELON, NC—You’ve heard of going Greek, but this year, Elon frats are going green! To kick off the start of 2021, the recent pledges of Sigma Mu Delta (SMD) have committed to recycling by building their new off-campus frat house out of bricks stolen from the abundance of campus walkways over the years. Stealing loose bricks as first-years is one of Elon’s most honored traditions, but a burdensome question that nags at all students after they return to their dorm rooms—exhilarated and intoxicated—is what to do with the bricks next. The members of SMD seem to have finally found the perfect answer: convert the lone, useless bricks into a house that students will enthusiastically take advantage of every weekend.
The SMD boys have received Dr. Connie Book’s input on interior design and are in contact with the Elon Inn’s architect to be sure that the house conforms with Elon’s architectural standards. One frat boy admitted that to further honor the use of items that are often confiscated from a dorm by Res Life, string lights and stolen street signs will adorn every wall when construction is complete. Res Life has refrained from commenting on this matter and refuses to donate confiscated bricks to the project. However, this lack of support from the underpaid babysitters has not dulled the spirit of initiates who are currently working hard to spread mortar and lay bricks on Saturdays with the boys to turn this proposal into a reality.
With construction well underway, the president of SMD confidently commented, “Bricks are the perfect building material for an epic party scene. No matter how hard we go, this house will stand. As we all know from the literary classic, The Three Little Pigs, brick houses are the most stable and reliable.”
This place sure is gonna be ready and resilient. Not even a social hiatus will be able to huff and puff and blow this house down. Additionally, one sorority girl from Sigma Theta Delta (STD) stated, “All my sisters can’t wait to go to the parties. We’re already asking for the addy.”
SMD hopes to see everyone at their first darty in March to celebrate a house built out of years of Elon tradition. Dr. Book was the first to RSVP, proclaiming, “I would never miss the biggest, most anticipated event of the year.” Any student who missed the original brick drive is encouraged to bring their brick to the darty. This new collection will begin the construction of a fountain. Until then, keep showing that Elon pride by stealing bricks in the night, and remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
